There is a serious crashing issue with the second ssd slot that no one mentions. And this is actually a clevo laptop rebranded to gigabyte.

Does it have battery drop issue in custom mode?

Pointless to worry about since the battery life isn't all that great to begin with, but I'm still curious how much of an impact this upgrade would have.

Hey just place order for this laptop. Thanks to this review. Dell is having sale, 2000$ Canadian, for ultra 9, 4060, 32GB, 1TB. What do you think of the deal? That conversion to american $ is about 1500$. I checked the dell usa website, same specs would be 1899 American $. And that comverted would be 2600$ and the normal listed MRSP price cdn is 2500. Damn sorry for all the math. Every penny counts been waiting to get new laptop for awhile. I hopw thia is the real thing. Lol.

11:40 Wouldn't the keyboard be a worse spot? It would be even easier to press because you couldn't see it at all. I had a Vivobook Flip on which I kept accidentally putting it to sleep for this exact reason. It _would_ be nice if they built the fingeprint scanner into the power button so, if docked to a monitor, one could turn on and unlock the laptop without having to open it and put unnecessary wear on the hinges.

This probably has an ASM2464PD chip, that’s the only one that reaches those speeds I think. Those chips pull 8 watts when transferring, and 3 or 4 watts when not transferring, on a 40 Gbps link. They either need a fan or a big chunk of aluminum with a good thermal pad. So your choices are either lightweight & kinda noisy, or heavy. If one of those two options is a substantially better choice for you, you already know which style you prefer. If you don’t know, either style will probably work for you just fine.

I have owned this laptop for 2 months now, got it what I felt was a really good deal for the specs. However the laptop started having odd issues that I never experienced before with Intel versions of ThinkPads. The laptop is sometimes unable to open up applications such as Microsoft Teams or even Windows Explorer. The window pops up, and then it's just blank before shutting down on its own. I leave this note in case anyone is considering this laptop, do bear in mind that there is risk of software/driver issues.

I had the original G14 with the 2060 and the heat from the WASD keys was unbearable for me. A lot of G14s have come out since then. Is it any better? This laptop is perfect for me otherwise.

hey Beau, I appreciate your videos / reviews as usual. But I have come to notice that many reviewers nowadays don't actually do reviews anymore. Just quick looks, quick tests on performance, noise etc. which makes it a PREview. Nobody does an actual REview after using it for at least a week or 5 work days in their own workflow. These metrics are all predictable for the specs and form factor. I would like to see actual usability results, how (consistent) is sleep and wake? Are there any random hiccups during this daily use? Any strange behaviors that you can't see in a preview like this etc.? Another important thing is how it behaves and FEELS on say balanced mode on battery, especially on the LAP since these are LAPtops. How is the battery drain during this personal use and what is your workflow etc.? You get me, and I don't mean this to bash on you or your content. I just genuinely can't find the actual information that I need.

Just received my Ideapad Pro 5 14 gen 9 with a similar hardware setup to this. You did a review on it (thanks - very helpful to me), or rather the Chinese import version of it. Short story - very happy with it! Just wanted to say I noticed in the BIOS that i can change the ram speed from 6400Mhz to 7500. I did because, er, higher must be better, right? 😅 Didn't bench before and after, just basically enabled it. Wondered if you'd have the same option on this laptop here.... EDIT: oh, I just realised this is 8840HS and the Ideapad Pro 5 14 gen 9 has an 8845HS. I think you even said 8845 in this video. Didn't realise they were different. Not by much, but the 8845 has a higher TDP and base / turbo clock speeds. It really is a minefield out there! ❤

Thank you for the review! I was between this and the 5i Pro, finally decided for this in the i9 version. The only real difference for me (besides the color that I asume in this is more "office friendly") was the screen: 500nits P3 in the Pro and 350nits sRGB in the i5. I work on grading on an external 4K BenQ screen, so it didn´t make those 200 USD diference. Bought an additional 2TB SSD with that money!

Just a quick question, does the 2242 SSD slot take dual side SSD thickness? Would really like to know this before the purchase? Thanks

These laptops are amazing but I just can't get over the jelly-like rounded corners of these laptops. I really prefer the Samsung laptop lineup aesthetic I've been brainwashed by that so when I look at these lenovo's while I'm possibly shifting to this brand, those rounded corners where the keyboard is and the rounded edges, makes the esthetic look too soft and weak. They should have added dimension to the curves.

I love these laptops, they’re very versatile and I don’t mind the lower 1200p screen resolution but I do wish that they added a 120hz option or at least make it a 90hz base screen, that would definitely peek my interest way more!
